Treatments:  Chemical Peels

What is a chemical peel?

By applying a chemical solution to the neck, face, or hands, this procedure can rejuvenate the appearance of your skin. The solution works by causing exfoliation and peeling in the epidermis, revealing the newer regenerated skin underneath. Temporary photosensitivity in the newly exposed areas is normal.

What does a chemical peel do?

Chemical Facials

A chemical peel gently removes the outer layers of the skin. The intensity of this procedure depends on which chemicals are used and the concentration of the formula. This process improves most skin surface issues such as acne, acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation.

What makes our skin peels unique?

Chemical Peels by Dermatology Associates of Seattle uncover your natural skin, revealing the most beautiful version of you.

Our peels consist of 3 different levels, designed to improve the overall appearance of your skin and to target specific concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, acne, and scarring. We categorize our peels as light, medium, or deep chemical treatments, based on which chemicals we use and the strength of the concentration. The best fit for you will depend on your desired results and the amount of time you wish to dedicate to your treatment.

What chemicals are in a peel?

Each peel is different, and the exact formulation depends on the desired level of intensity. The most widely used chemicals are alpha and beta hydroxy acids (AHAs and BHAs) and trichloroacetic acid (TCA). The mildest acids, AHAs and BHAs, are often used in lighter chemical peels. TCA can be utilized in a variety of formulations.

What goes on during the procedure?

Our licensed master aestheticians at Dermatology Associates of Seattle will begin treatment by prepping and cleansing the skin to ensure removal of oil and debris. The peel mixture will then be applied to exfoliate the top layer of skin on the face, followed by an application of a hydrating solution. The treatment ends with a smoothing of medical-grade sun protection. Our peels will eventually leave your skin glowing and smooth.

Is there any downtime after a chemical peel procedure?

Yes, as with all chemical peels, there is some downtime depending on the intensity of the procedure. For a few days after light peels, there is usually light flaking, irritation, and peeling. A medium chemical peel may require up to 2-3 weeks for skin to return to a regular appearance.

When will I see results?

The healing period varies depending on the intensity level of the procedure. Once your skin has healed, it will feel soft, smooth and have a radiant glow.
