What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is traditional Chinese Medicine that dates back thousands of years. Acupuncture is a complementary therapy used in conjunction with other treatments. The basis of acupuncture is that disease is caused by blockages or disruptions to the flow of energy in the body. To help rebalance this flow of energy, or Qi, as it is commonly called, needles are gently placed through the skin along various vital points so that the body systems work in harmony. Qi is meant to flow smoothly to even the most remote cells. Acupuncture enhances the flow of Qi. Think of Qi as a “The Life Force.”

How will acupuncture help me?

Seattle Acupuncture

When your Qi is balanced, you are in good health. When it is blocked, you may experience pain, disease, imbalance, depression, inflammation or other physical or emotional dysfunction. Acupuncture is based on Chinese medicine, a comprehensive health care system. Today these ancient medical practices are combined with modern therapies to treat illness, prevent disease, and to improve well-being. How acupuncture works is difficult to explain in western terms. One theory is that acupuncture modulates pain transmission and the pain response by activation of endorphins and various neuropeptides by needle insertion. Acupuncture involves a holistic approach to wellness and health. Acupuncture has become widely recognized for its effectiveness in the United States and other Western Countries. Many physicians refer patients to experienced acupuncture practitioners in conjunction with western medicine therapies.
